Lord Mayor John So chats to Steve Jacobs and is surrounded by a group of people wearing t-shirts that read “John So is my bro”. The t-shirts were created for “The Don’t Sweat Shop” project that is occurring as part of the 2006 Next Wave Festival. The Don’t Sweat Shop challenges you to create, manufacture and take home your own piece of Games merchandise without any training, drug testing or actual exercise.

This event is taking place until this Sunday, 26 March in a shipping container in Shed 14 at Docklands. Each day designs submitted by the public will be chosen and go into production within the container – and the “John So is my bro” t-shirts is one of the outcomes. The t-shirts are available for sale from Shed 14 at Melbourne Docklands for $18. Designs can also be applied to tea towels, aprons, carry bags, badges and bookmarks. All proceeds from the “John So is my bro” t-shirts and other designs that participants have created will go towards Fair Wear, the peak organisation for prevention of home-based outworkers in Australia.
